Scrapbooking Page Layout Ideas

scrapbooking page layout ideas for your scrapbook

For many beginning scrapbookers, the prospect of creating a layout from a blank sheet of cardstock or patterned paper seems overwhelming. They’ve collected the necessary supplies, but they just don’t know how to arrange their photos and journaling to create a visually pleasing layout. Luckily, scrapbooking page layout ideas can be found in many different places.

If you need assistance getting your photos and embellishments to “fit” on the page, consider using sketches to help your design process. These scrapbooking page layout ideas are available in scrapbooking magazines. You can also find collections of sketches for 8 ½ x 11, 12x12, 6x6, and 8x8 albums on different scrapbooking related web sites. Most sketches have been created by a scrapbooker with a background in graphic design, so using sketches to determine the placement of elements in your layout can help you create professional-looking scrapbooks.

If a sketch doesn’t fit your layout, you can make a few modifications to create a one-of-a kind masterpiece. You can alter the size of a photo, combine two photo areas into one, or replace a photo with a journaling block. You can also “flip” a sketch so that the top elements are on the bottom of the page or the elements on the left side are on the right. For more scrapbooking page layout ideas, you can even combine the left side of one sketch with the right side of another to create a completely original two page layout.

When you look at a friend’s scrapbook, you can also find interesting scrapbooking page layout ideas. Notice color combinations, techniques, and the placement of different elements on the page. It’s perfectly acceptable to get inspiration from other scrapbookers. However, if you plan to submit your finished creations to a magazine or enter them in a contest, you should always give credit to the source of your scrapbooking page layout ideas.

Scrapbooking ideas can also be found in places that have nothing to do with scrapbooking! Pay attention to the layouts of magazines, the color combinations used in the packaging of your favorite products, and the interesting sentiments printed inside greeting cards. Even the pattern on your favorite sweater or the lyrics to your favorite song can help you create interesting layouts for your scrapbook. You may want to consider carrying a small notebook in your purse so you’ll have a spot to jot down any scrapbooking ideas you’d like to use in your future layouts. Remember, inspiration is all around you!
